Green

They start in my chest

Dark sprigs tightening their fingers

Gripping my stomach

Wrapping my body

With leaves of missed opportunities

And fear…oh the fear!

That I’ll watch, sidelined

While others make their ascent.

And I’m stuck. Waiting.
