Recurrence

I feel like I’m losing

Across the table, you stare

With hollowed out eyes

Eyes that scare me

Because I’m worried for you

Worried for all the feelings

I cant possibly help you manage

Not by myself. Not without help

And, don’t worry. We will get you help.

But in the meantime

I feel useless

Wishing I could take your pain

And fear

Ball it up and throw it far away

Crush it into dust

And send it up into space, letting it orbit around a star instead of your brain

But i can’t

I can’t do anything but stand by you.

And tell you I love you

Mothers

It’s a strange thing

To share your kids with others

But…that’s what divorce is

Two people now split

Learning to share their beloveds

It’s not an easy thing

Blended families are hard

I’ve had to share with two women

(But that’s another story)

And…it’s a strange thing

Also a great one, and I’ll tell you why

Sometimes we’re selfish

We think sharing love means diluting love

Of course it doesn’t

And isn’t it amazing

When so many people want the same thing?

To love

And be loved

By children?

Flying

I didn’t expect

The difficulty of flying

Hard work and long days

Turn to sore muscles

And mind blocks that sting your brain

Gnaw at your senses

Until you want to give up

It’d be easier

But you don’t….for spite

So you keep running

Shoes ticking on the pavement

Sweat In your eyes

Until you find one day

That you were so focused on the finish

You didn’t notice you’d learned to fly.

Three Months Out

The lights still twinkle

Beautiful in the darkness

Red, green, blue, and white

Their defiant glow

Bringing joy to the neighbors

amidst troubling times

Not just one person

Multiple houses have lights

Strung up for christmas

And electrified

As beacons for change

Green

They start in my chest

Dark sprigs tightening their fingers

Gripping my stomach

Wrapping my body

With leaves of missed opportunities

And fear…oh the fear!

That I’ll watch, sidelined

While others make their ascent.

And I’m stuck. Waiting.

Beautiful Mundane

Crawling into work

The sky stretching over me

Blue and crisp and cold

Bathing the mountains

In its icy teal beauty

It’s mundanity

Makes it all more beautiful

But…I creep inside

Ice Queen

Spring is so fickle

Last week she stretched her arms, yawning

We were in her glow

Yet this week she left

Crawling under a blanket of snow

Underground with Hades

The rustling of paper notes

Soft murmured questions

Machines of war

A war has begun

In times of war it’s easy

To be misinformed

Critical thinking

Is required from sources

Importantly, you

Shouldn’t make sweeping comments

On volatile situations

That have taken years

To unfold

You’re not an expert

Especially if you’re shocked

At Russia’s aggression

Pro tip

If you ever barf

In a Disneyland bathroom

I highly suggest

Barfing in the one

Before the jungle cruise

Near the tiki room

It has a “hidden”

Lane on the far left wall

For privacy on

Your land of adventure
